Engagements

How the Forum engages with UK companies.

Through our Collective Engagement Framework, the Forum engages with company boards to amplify and reinforce the key messages from their shareholders. We act as a trusted facilitator for our Members across three distinct engagement types.

Driving change

Engaging for Outcomes

Structured collective engagement with company boards focused on delivering specific strategic, governance or capital allocation change. Each Engagement for Outcomes is governed by the Collective Engagement Framework, with clear objectives agreed at outset and reviewed at conclusion.

Building understanding

Engaging for Insight

Engagements designed to develop deeper understanding of a company’s strategy, performance or industry context — informing investment decision-making across the Member community without seeking specific change outcomes.

Launched 2025

Board Dialogue Service

A disciplined, high-quality platform for constructive engagement between investors and Non-Executive Directors. Member meetings with Non-Executives can be valuable for investors and efficient for companies — helping investors gain clarity and increase confidence that the Board is fully aware of the focus and nature of investor concerns.

In focus

The Board Dialogue Service — launched 2025.

Launched in 2025 during Chris Kinder’s first full year as CEO, the Board Dialogue Service formalises and extends the Forum’s long-standing facilitation of meetings between Members and company Non-Executive Directors.

The Investor Forum’s Board Dialogue Service provides a disciplined, high-quality platform for constructive engagement. The session they hosted for me on GSK’s investment case had a tailored agenda to meet GSK and investors’ interests, a highly receptive audience, and was a very efficient use of my time.

Tailored agendas

Each Board Dialogue Service session has an agenda built around both the Non-Executive’s priorities and Members’ areas of interest in the company.

Engaged audience

Sessions convene a curated audience of Member investors with active interest in the company, ensuring substantive and informed dialogue.

Efficient for boards

One well-organised session enables a Non-Executive to engage with multiple significant shareholders in a single, time-efficient meeting.

Trusted facilitation

The Forum’s executive team facilitates throughout, ensuring sessions remain within the Collective Engagement Framework’s safe, structured environment.

Engagement principles

How we approach every engagement.

Every Forum engagement is conducted under principles that ensure constructive dialogue with companies and protect Member interests.

Approach with an open mind

Shareholders have seen value in participating in collective engagement under the auspices of the Forum, and we expect a company to respect the Forum’s role in amplifying shareholder views in pursuit of constructive dialogue.

No inside information

The Forum actively seeks to avoid obtaining inside information from companies without our prior consent.

Board level participation

The approach is constructive, with the aim of helping the company understand the range of participants’ views and any obstacles to realising the company’s long-term potential.

A comprehensive plan

We seek outcomes that enhance the value of the franchise for the benefit of all stakeholders.

Transparency

After closing, we report on the engagement at a high level in order to demonstrate our stewardship activity.

Constructive throughout

Every engagement is designed to deliver tangible outcomes, reviewed against agreed objectives at its conclusion.
